Billie Eilish has launched a sustainable fashion line in collaboration with H&M.
The retail company says Eilish’s affordable line “has been made from materials sourced in a more sustainable way.” It includes some of her signature pieces, including long, boxy t-shirts; oversized hoodies; sweatshirt dresses; and joggers.
“We’re super excited about this merch collection drop,” H&M’s Head of Design Divided Emily Bjorkheim said. “Billie Eilish is obviously an inspiring artist but also someone a lot of people around the world admire for her personal style and empowering way of expressing her values. We want to enable her fans to step into her world and feel empowered to freely express their style as well.”
In 2019, Eilish did a campaign with Calvin Klein, but unlike many of the label’s other ad stars, she was not dressed in her underwear. She instead wore her oversized skater gear. Eilish says in the ad that she uses style to protect herself from disrespectful scrutiny many women and girls face.
“I never want the world to know everything about me,” Eilish said in the ad. “I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, ya know? Nobody can be like ‘she’s slim-thick, she’s not slim-thick. She’s got a flat ass, she’s got a fat ass.’ No one can say any of that, because they don’t know. I speak my truth in my Calvins.”
The pop star has previously advocated for going green. Before her fall 2019 debut on “Saturday Night Live,” Eilish posted a video about fighting the climate crisis saying: “Our Earth is warming up and our oceans are rising. Extreme weather is wrecking millions of lives,” Billie can be heard saying in the video. “We cannot let this happen on our watch. Up to one million species are becoming extinct because of mankind’s actions. And time is running out. Millions of people around the world are taking to the streets on a climate strike, demanding our leaders listen to the science and act.”
Eilish’s H&M collection launched in January 2020.
